UNESCO Chair for Peace & Intercultural Understanding, Malaviya Centre for Peace Research at Banaras Hindu University (UNESCO: MCPR) and URI signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) on August 21, 2019. The purpose of the MoC is to provide a framework of cooperation within which URI and UNESCO: MCPR will cooperate in areas of common interest and work together towards the shared goals of promoting education and interfaith cooperation and peacebuilding, including (1) sharing resources and jointly organizing events to promote building cultures of peace, justice and healing and/or increased understanding among people of different religious or spiritual traditions, and specifically (2) the URI India National Assembly, “Shanti Sangam: Towards Interreligious Understanding and Global Peace,” which was hosted by MCPR in Varanasi November 22-24, 2019.
