The SULHA Peace Project CC | Middle East and North Africa Region
It began with a young man’s vision of healing for one of the epicenters of religiously motivated conflict: Jerusalem. Inspired by Sulha, the Middle Eastern indigenous process of mediation, Gabriel Meyer envisioned bringing together Jews, Arabs, Israelis and Palestinians to learn a new language of peace and develop a culture of co-existence. In 2000, he traveled to Shefaram in Northern Israel to meet with peacemaking elder and Sulha mediator, Elias Jabbour. Their meeting led to a powerful initiative, the Sulha Peace Project, that today brings thousands of people together each year for a time of fellowship and commitment to rebuild trust, restore dignity, and move beyond the political agenda.
