On 12th October 2010 Friends of Community Health CC and the other CCs like Youth Interfaith Mission, Interfaith Youth Partnership CC and the Latter Glory of Busoga CC together with the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Hon Rebbecca Kadaga launched the Basic Hygiene Campaign starting with the jigger eradication campaign in Eastern Uganda. Efforts were coordinated by our URI office here in Kampala. This was one of the attempts on the MDGs for poverty alleviation campaigns. It was realized that jiggers and other hygiene related problems are as a result of poverty and attitude related problems in these villages.
Over 500 jigger patients were treated by our volunteers and also supplied with health kits. These kits were made possible with support from fundraising from the different Corporate companies in the country, Ministry of Health and the Deputy Speakers Office which were donated to us. The Minister of Primary Health Care Hon Kakooza was also present and other high ranking ministry officials. The Cultural Leader in the area His Royal Highness Gabula Nadiope II was the chief guest and he commisioned the treatment before our team of volunteers took over.
