One hundred and fifty university scholars and delegates from 25 countries coverged on Dhaka University in Bangladesh on November 27 for the second International Conference on Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue. Their goal: to share interfaith knowledge and research and build the role of universities in educating youth on interfaith dialogue and peacebuilding. The three-day conference was organized by the Department of World Religions and Cultures at Dhaka University, in collaboration with UNESCO and the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization-Tehran. Its themes included cooperation among interfaith organizations, the Golden Rule and global ethics.
"Universities are taking interfaith activities very seriously," said Abraham Karickam, Regional Coordinator for URI South India, noting particular interest coming from the Arab world. He attended the conference along with members of the URI in Bangladesh Cooperation Circle, and presented a paper entitled "Inter-textual and Inter-cultural Dialogue among the Holy Scriptures."
