Ambassador Mussie Hailu, URI Regional Director for Africa was honored in Washington D.C. on March 12 with a Silver Star Award from the International Strategic Studies Association (ISSA) for his work in international relations and peacemaking.
“By working in promoting throughout the world the ‘Golden Rule’ — do unto others as you would have them do unto you,” the association wrote in a press release, “Amb. Hailu had been able to help achieve greater understanding among different religious groups and between societies.”
The Silver Star is the highest award of the association, an international network of senior national and international security and strategic policy officials, and is awarded only rarely for “outstanding and enduring works beneficial to humanity.”
“We have seen his unique talents being brought to bear in the Great Lakes Region of Africa, which has been an area of great change in recent years,” said ISSA President Gregory Copley. “ISSA felt that his contributions deserved worldwide attention.”
As a Silver Star recipient, Ambassador Hailu joins a distinguished list of high-level government leaders, including Maj.-Gen. Michael Jeffery, Governor-General of Australia and Alexander M. Haig, Jr., former Secretary of State of the United States of America and former NATO Supreme Allied Commander in Europe.
