URI’s Environmental Satellite announced the recipients of its first round of Environmental Seed Grants this week, awarding seven grants ranging from $500 to $2000 to Cooperation Circles (CCs) in Africa, Latin America, the Middle East and Asia. The program was funded through the generosity of San Francisco Bay Area donors to promote URI’s involvement in environmental issues. Selected projects include an energy efficiency and forestation campaign by the URI Great Lakes regional office in Uganda in partnership with four local CCs; an environmental bloggers’ handbook by Tel Aviv-based Green Prophet CC; a home gardening and green manure training program for Indigenous families in Panama by the Kuna Women Artisans CC; and a campaign by the Ranchi Peace CC in India to hold local mining companies accountable for pollution.
