After an extensive search that attracted many qualified candidates from five countries, URI is pleased to announce the appointment of Abdallah Hendawy of Cairo, Egypt as Regional Coordinator for the Multi-Region.
Abdallah is a member of the Sustainable Development Cooperation Circle and has participated in MENA Regional Assemblies, including 2010 Meeting in Amman, Jordan. Abdallah holds a degree in Business Management and has participated in several advanced training courses in human rights, conflict resolution, negotiation and mediation.
He has been working with the Fredrich Nauman Foundation for Liberty as a program officer doing political research in Arab countries and developing effective communication strategies and working relationships with international organizations.
In addition he has experience developing civic education programs and capacity building training for youth in Arab countries in the area of human rights. His personal skills and interests include: blogging on social and political topics, professional photography and public speaking.
While working with URI part time, Abdallah will continue to serve as anchor of a local radio program raising up issues of human rights and democracy in Cairo. Though Abdallah’s home city is Alexandria, he lives and works in Cairo at this time.
Abdallah mentioned that his motivation to work with URI is rooted in his deep conviction of the importance of face-to-face dialogue and building bridges of understanding and respect among people of different religions and cultures.
