Today we remember 9/11. Last night I worked until about 5 a.m. this morning putting together videos for various groups, including our own 1000 Kalema for this day of remembrance. It is has been said, "We shall not forget." I have problems with that phrase because in my tradition I have always believed that God FORGIVES and FORGETS, thankfully through Grace and Compassion for us. Instead, I like to think we will remember that violence costs--it robs us of our innocence and yes, often times compassion. We hurt and so we want to hurt others.
So, I would like us to "remember" that violence hurts and to remember those who were lost and hurt in so many ways through violence. But, I would like for us to remember who we are. I'd like us to remember that fabric of humanity may tear, but ultimately I believe that the good that lives in all of us will prevail--repairing the world. Let us remember and do something about the less fortunate, creating social, environmental and social justice from this day forward. As we often say, "Let Peace Prevail on Earth" and I think we should remember that the peace resides in us and we can tap into. That we can not only tap into it, but that we can a light--a beacon--to others to do the same.
I'm blessed to be a part of an organization made up for people. Let us remember that.
