April 5th marks international Golden Rule Day, thanks in large part to Mussie Hailu, one of URI's founding members and current URI Regional Director for Africa, and one of interfaith's strongest advocates and practitioners.
Ambassador Mussie Hailu has been working tirelessly for years to promote the message of the Golden Rule -- and to emphasize its global nature. This year, he wrote about Golden Rule events in Africa (via Charter for Compassion):
Greetings of peace, light and blessing from Ethiopia. I just got back to Ethiopia from my peace mission in Burundi. I am so happy to inform you that I met with mayors of Bujumbura in Burundi and Juba in South Sudan. Both mayors proclaimed the Golden Rule Day and agree to join us in the work of Charter for Compassion and want to make compassionate city program. I have also support for the Golden Rule Day from President of Ethiopia, President of Burundi and Deputy Chairperson of African Union and others....We have a big event planned here in Ethiopia where 1300 people will take part. the Minister of Culture will be the guest of Honor. On this occasion we are going to appoint the Golden Rule Good Will Ambassador of the year and will also present the Golden Rule medal and trophy.
