Founded in Kerala, India in 2011 by Swami Chaturvedi of the Ramanuja Mission Trust and URI’s South India subregion, the International Peace Research Institute is a complimentary unit of URI’s Traveling Peace Academy. The Institute is currently seeking stories about one or more persons whose actions are making a difference in their part of the world. The stories will be included in an upcoming book about novel peace initiatives.
“For example, we have a story from Manipur about a women’s market, called ‘Ima Keital,’ ” said Abraham Karickam, Coordinator for URI’s South India subregion. “It tells the history of the struggles of hundreds of poor women who have united to protect their rights. The initiative came from a few mothers. It is an excellent chronicle of women’s empowerment.”

The South India subregion recently honored 15 eminent poets (pictured above) at a special function organized by the Karickam International Public School. K. Muraleedharan, Deputy Secretary General of All India Radio, was the chief guest at the Nov. 10 function.
An anthology of the poets’ work was also published on the occasion.
