Located about 80 kilometers (50 miles) northeast of the capital city of Amman, Mafraq is one of the poorest cities in Jordan, having recently received more than 50,000 refugees from Syria.
With the help of the Jordanian Association for Orphans & Widows Care Cooperation Circle and the assistance of the Good Hands group, the URI-MENA members invited 30 families (including many Syrian refugees) to the CC’s headquarters, where they distributed clothes, household appliances, blankets, bags and children’s toys collected by several donors.
The event marked the 11th project undertaken by URI-MENA members this year.
“A single hand or even a government alone cannot eradicate poverty,” said URI-MENA Regional Coordinator Ma’moun Khreisat. “Therefore, we are networking to encourage as many kind-hearted people as we can to help us in alleviating poverty in remote areas of Jordan.”
After distributing the toys, clothes and other items, URI-MENA members enjoyed spending time with children from the local communities.
