The program began Feb. 25, with 70 women and three sewing machines. Based in East Medinipur, India, the Cooperation Circle has previously set up several small scale businesses to help women support themselves financially. The group has also worked to end domestic violence and the dowry system.
“These are women from various ethnic backgrounds standing together for their rights and raising their voices for social justice,” said Biswadeb Chakraborty, URI Coordinator for India’s East Zone.
