Kiran, who serves as chair of the Yorkshire Women’s Federation for Peace, led a peace march from the Huddersfield Parish Church through the town center of Huddersfield, Yorkshire towards the library. Members of many faith groups offered prayers and reflections on the role of women in society.
"We celebrated the spirit of womanhood and commemorated the contribution of women in political, economic and social decision-making at all levels in society,” Kiran said. “As people of diverse faiths and traditions, we call for an end to all forms of abuse and violence against females. We reaffirm the teachings of our rich traditions which preach gender equality, and prohibit sinful acts such as female foeticide. As a community, we must continue to unite to uphold a society based on the values of fairness and dignity for all."
The March 16 event, which included both women and men in its participants, concluded with Indian refreshments at the Sita Rama Hindu temple.
