URI Global Council Chair Kiran Bali (Hindu) celebrates the festival of Holi with Nisar Smiler (Muslim) and Gurdev Singh Gossal (Sikh) at Huddersfield’s Sita Rama Temple.
Holi is an ancient Hindu festival of color, celebrated on the day of the full moon, in which the energy and vibrancy of spring is welcomed. The event is a time of wild celebration, in which participants throw handfuls of colored powder at each other.
“Holi emphasizes the importance of equality in society when all divisive barriers are broken to bring color and spiritual joy into our lives,” said Kiran Bali, URI’s Global Council Chair, who helped lead the interfaith celebration at Huddersfield’s Sita Rama Temple.
“We shared our exuberance with community members from all backgrounds and drenched them in the spirit of Holi,” Kiran said. “Members of all faiths sang together, danced and smeared each other with powder paint in a celebratory ambience.”
