Demonstration on the state of food insecurity in Pakistan
BETHAK-Pakistan and REAT conducted a demonstration on the state of Food Insecurity in Pakistan. The members of Khanewal Civil Society Network and Human Rights Defenders participated in the demonstration at Chowk Sanglanwala, Khanewal. Mr. Shahzad Francis, Mr. Akhtar Hussain and Ms. Akeela Naz voiced their concern over the increasing prices of food items and increases in number of hungry people in Pakistan. The speakers stressed on food being a basic need which has been declared as a basic human right by United Nation Declaration of Human Rights. They also warned the government authorities that the existing food crisis might lead to law and order situation if necessary measures are not taken in time. It was further stated by them that the existing frustration is visible from the protests reported in the media. It was requested by all present that government must ensure to maintain a balance of food availability in the country.
