On Wednesday April 30th, a group of women from Muslim, Jewish, and Christian members of the larger Jerusalem community met for a day of gardening, conversation, and brainstorming at the Ahmad Sameh school in Abu Tor, Jerusalem – marking the first of many gatherings to come. This collaboration, the most recent development in the Women’s Interfaith Ecology Project, will draw on the interests and skills of this diverse group of women. The idea behind this project is to facilitate a cross-cultural collaboration and serve the needs of the local communities through grassroots leadership and mutual respect. The project aims to unite local community leaders in exchanging ideas and personal connections, building relationships, and implementing sustainable community projects in and around Jerusalem.
The event was largely spent making connections and laying the groundwork for the future projects to unfold. Part of the meeting was spent in Ahmad Sameh’s greenhouse where the women shared their knowledge of planting and methods of gardening in their respective communities.
