The 24 indigenous and culturally diverse members of the South Eastern Indigenous Interfaith Council Cooperation Circle (CC), based in Georgia, USA, are one of URI’s newest groups, forming this past April.
This CC’s primary focus is to generate interfaith dialogues and exchange Earth-based knowledge. Its members, of Indigenous, Buddhist, Christian and Jewish faith, also share ceremonies, rituals, and rites of passage in order to reawaken the heart to what members call "the Ancient Dream."
Tom Blue Wolf, a founding member of the CC based in Georgia in the US, says, “We live [URI’s] Principle, Purpose and Preamble through ceremony and action and the sharing of ceremonies, and through sharing and honoring the people—water people, forest people, all the people; traveling the world teaching these ceremonies that honor each other.”
Tom is also Founder and Director of EarthKeepers One Tribe Trading Company, an organization that creates herbal healing products as educates others on the environment.
South Eastern Indigenous Interfaith Council’s most current project is an alliance with the city of Atlanta, Georgia, Emory University, and The Alliance Theater (in Atlanta). The CC will present a work of art that will represent the affect the American Civil War had on the North American indigenous peoples in general and the people of this region specifically.
The South Eastern Indigenous Interfaith Council hopes to expand their network by joining URI. This CC also hopes to, according to Tom, “Carry our work forward into the future in a secure forum where others of like mindedness can take up the work and carry it for us when we are no longer able to do so.”
He continues, “We need a council, like a council of grandmothers, who can keep stories and allow us to stop repeating our errors. URI will allow us to do that.”
Although South Eastern Indigenous Interfaith Council is new to URI, Tom says, “There is a strong sense of support and empowerment that has distinctly flavored our decision-making process specifically and our world view in general.”
This summer, Tom was able to attend the URI’s Global Indigenous Initiative gathering, “Hidden Seeds of Natural Healing and Curing.” It was his first encounter with members of URI from all over the world. Upon reflecting on the event, he says:
“To leave the gathering with the intent of those that gathered from six continents to have the Catholic Church denounce the Doctrine of Discovery is quite extraordinary indeed. I would say it’s a historic event, especially after the more than 500 years of being on the books. This was a most grand and Blessed ‘first’ meeting. The feeling of ‘remembering all that was, is, and will be’ was and still is deeply with me.”

Aunque South Eastern Indigenous Interfaith Council es nuevo para URI, dice Tom, “Hay un fuerte sentido de apoyo y empoderamiento que ha favorecido nuestro proceso de toma de decisiones especficamente y en nuestra visión del mundo en general.”
Este verano, Tom pudo participar de la asamblea de la Iniciativa Indígena Global de URI, “Semillas Escondidas de Sanación Natural y Cura.” Éste fue el primer encuentro con miembros de URI del mundo entero. Al reflexionar sobre el evento, el dice:
“Dejar la asamblea con la intención de aquellos que se reunieron de seis continentes, de hacer denunciar a la Iglesia Católica la Doctrina del Descubrimiento, es ciertamente bastante extraordinario. Diría que es un evento histórico, especialmente después de más de 500 años de estar en los libros. Ésta fue una gran y bendecida “primera” reunión. La sensación de “recordar todo lo que fue, es y será” estuvo y aún está profundamente conmigo.”
