URI Europe Cooperation Circles from Bulgaria continue to support the collective work for peace with IDP celebrations through education, community service and so much more.
The slogan of this year’s events was taken from Christian Irenics and states: "In essentials unity, in non-essentials liberty, in all things charity.”
The first event featured a conference under the theme “Journalists for a more peaceful world” and took place from 11:00AM on 19th of September. This event was organized by the Plovdiv’ Club of Journalists “Evropres (URI Europe CC), Foundation “Help the Needy” (URI Europe CC) and its associated structure Citizen’s Forum “Council of the Nation” from Plovdiv. The event also featured a lecture by Petar Gramatikov, URI Global Council Trustee, on the topic “Religious communities for a more peaceful world.”
On the 20th and 21st of September, there was a one-hour radio program of the prayer circle of the World Council of Churches dedicated to the peoples of Bulgaria, Hungary and Romania.
Each year, also on the 21st of September, the World Council of Churches called churches and parishes to observe events as journalist Ljudmila Sugareva hosts “Meetings with the XXth Century on Radio Plovdiv- Bulgarian National Radio”.
Petar Gramatikov from the Center for Ecumenical Dialogue “Saint Apostle Hermas”- Plovdiv (a URI CC from Plovdiv, Bulgaria) was among the guests.
After the International Day of Peace, URI Cooperation Circles in Bulgaria (four from Plovdiv and Eastern European Forum for Dialogue “Bridges” from Sofia) plan a joint action, together with Jorsala Walkers in Bulgaria, on the 27th of September 2014, honoring the International Peace Day of the United Nations, in parallel with the International Day of Prayer for Peace (IDPP) – a day in which armed conflict is meant to be stilled, a day for combatants to observe cease-fires and a day in which all people are invited to commit or reaffirm their commitment to non-violence and the peaceful resolution of disputes.
