The URI MENA office in Amman, Jordan, in celebrating the International Day of Peace this year, organized “Sport for Peace,” an event for 30 children from Baqa’a Palestinian refugee camp.
Nearly half of the kids are suffering from physical disabilities, but URI folks managed to engage them in a variety of sport activities. The children played football, volleyball and other group challenge games. Various Jordanian URI CC members spent quality time with these pure children; we felt that we were playing with little angels. Sports clothes and balls were donated to the children.
At the end of the event we all came together and prayed for peace. URI staff explained to the children and their mothers what URI is doing and how peace is important in our lives. We listened to the kids' personal stories, hopes and challenges; we also shared with them our stories and experiences on facing challenges and encourage them to turn challenges into opportunities. We felt as a one big family; each one of us shared something with kids. We left them with a promise to meet again.
May peace prevail on MENA Region! May peace prevail on earth! Together we can serve our world better.
