As an enraged mob on November 4, 2014 beat the Christian couple to death on minor dispute and then burnt their bodies in the brick kiln where they worked at Kot Radha Kishan area of Punjab Province - Pakistan. To condemn this inhuman and shameful act of lynching of a Christian couple by a mob Pakistan Council for Social Welfare & Human Rights convened its executive committee meeting. Mr. Muhammad Ijaz Noori Chairman Pakistan Council for Social Welfare & Human Rights chaired the executive committee meeting. Prominent religious leaders Moulana Abdul Ghafoor Noori Divisional Khateeb Gujranwala Division, Chairman Ulama Mashaiqe Council Dr. Mufti Najeeb Ahmed Hashmi especially participated in the executive committee meeting of PCSW&HR. Mr. Mushtaq Ahmed Qadri, Ch. Muhammad Ijaz, Mansoor Ahmed and others also addressed during the executive committee meeting.
PCSW&HR’s executive committee expressed shock and grief at the brutal murder of a young Christian couple in Kot Radha Kishan, while addressing the executive committee meeting Mr. Muhammad Ijaz Noori said that no person could be allowed to commit such inhuman and shameful acts in the name of religion. He said that such kind of incidents are real concern for civilized society and country. PCSW&HR strongly condemns violence against the Christian couple and demands that the culprits be arrested and given exemplary punishment.
He Noori further added that growing intolerance in society, improper investigation into the cases and lack of action against master minds of such incidents are basic reasons of incidents. Such kinds of incidents are conspiracy against the solidarity of Pakistan. Islam and constitution of Pakistan gives full equal privileges to all minorities to enjoy their rights in an Islamic state. He urged the government, law enforcing authorities, religious leaders and the civil society to take steps for promoting tolerance and social solidity in the society and punish the perpetrators of such barbaric acts to set an example for the sake of a peaceful and progressive Pakistan where everyone enjoys equal rights. The brutal murder of the Christian couple in Kot Radha Krishan is an unacceptable crime by mob and responsible state shouldn’t tolerate mob rule and public lynching with impunity. Mr. Noori further said that government has to act proactively to protect its minorities from violence and injustice. It is moral obligation of civil society to promote religious and ethnic diversity in our society as a virtue. He urged that responsible of this shameful incident must be brought to justice.
While addressing during the executive committee meeting Divisional Khateeb Moulana Abdul Ghafoor Noori, Dr. Mufti Najeeb Hashmi and members of executive committee stressed that both the government and judiciary must take steps to curb the growing incidents of violence in the country, increasingly taking place in the name of religion. The executive committee also questioned the role played by the local police authorities during this incident and said that in the presence of police mob took the law in its hand is fully failure of government and government should resign. Members of executive committee of PCSW&HR called for a judicial inquiry into the misuse of blasphemy laws so that adequate amendments can be made against those who wrongfully accuse others. PCSW&HR’s executive committee also demanded that minorities living in Pakistan should provide the full security and rights otherwise civil society will be forced to protest.
