Members of PEACE CC - Millindar and family, organized a “Piece for Peace” activity for the residents of their society on the 19th and 20th of September 2015, to celebrate the International Day of Peace. Last year the children from this big complex had enthusiastically participated in the morning Peace procession for UN Peace day. But this year the senior citizens, youth, parents etc. from the complex all desired to participate in the celebrations. Hence a different type of activity was planned during evening hours for two consecutive days. A prior invitation was displayed at the notice board of the complex lobby, giving details about the activities to be organized for UN Peace Day Celebrations.
Below we share a brief report by Mrs. Anula Millindar who was in charge of the whole event.
The activity was enthusiastically attended by the children and the youth studying in different schools and colleges. They wrote, painted and conveyed their thoughts on their understanding of the Theme “Our world is One Family” the literal meaning of ‘VasudaivaKutumbakam.”
The late Bharat Ratna Dr. A. P. J. Kalam said, “When there is beauty in character, there is harmony in the home. When there is harmony in the home, there is order in the nation. When there is order in the nation there is peace in the world.”
It was heartening to know the above thoughts pouring out from the young children who are the building blocks of the future world. The purity of their heart and the creativity of their mind were flowing through their bodies in the form of sketches and drawings. While the youth penned down their revolutionary ideas and thoughts in the form of essays and notes.
Anishka Annam and Agreeta Singh two cheerful Std III students; Arohi Shetty and Soham, innocent Std IV students; Rasika Patil and Divya Dubey, very shy and timid Class V Students, and Yash (Std IV) and Aaryan (Std V) and Akshit (StdVII) energetic and playful boys put their thoughts into colorful and meaningful artwork. Karthikey (Class V) was busy helping all the other children.
“United - Strong; Single – Weak. We all should be united and be like one family. We all are one family with many religions but all are one” was the message, Sakshi Bindra, a Class V student, wrote on her drawing. This bubbly little child was full of enthusiasm, ecouraging her friends to participate and helping us put up the exhibits.
Harshit Negi a quiet and thoughtful Std V student of Poddar School drew beautifully and wrote, “World is 1; be together, live together.”
“Peace is a beautiful way of spreading happiness all around you. Just an open heart or even a simple smile is enough for happiness to spread… The people who follow the path of Peace are the ones (who) are successful and are leading their life wonderfully and to the fullest. Be peaceful, be successful,” wrote Jansy Jena, a Class VII student of Poddar.
Ananya Shetty, a Std. VIII student of Parle Tilak Vidyalya, wrote, “People who love peace are peaceful throughout their life… Love Peace, Live Life. Peace gives us a cool mind.”
“…As we all know, one war sows the seeds of another. So it is better to lead a peaceful life than that life full of violence,” wrote Vivek, studying in Class VIII, while he taught many children to make Origami Doves.
Roopesh Singh, a IX Std student of St. Anthony’s High School, wrote “What is Peace? …Peace and love are two things which cannot be purchased by money. Peace if said in another word means non-violence.”
“I’m white, black and Asian, NO RACISM. We are but one Family,” said a Panda drawn by Eshank Panchal, a junior college student.
Antarra Singh a Cass XI student of PACE, aspiring to be a Doctor, wrote, “The opportunity of Brotherhood presents itself, every time you meet a new human being.”
We hope that she will, also, one day heal humanity by spreading the message of Universal Brotherhood.
“If we stand together, believe in each other and have respect for each other we can make this world a better place to Live. Be a family,” wrote Aditi and Pushpa, both Std XI students.
Chef Jerson, wrote, “Peace is within, money can’t buy peace. Do Good, Be Better and Get the Best. Make The Word A Better Place To Live In.”
Painting the canvas with vibrant rainbow colors of the Light spectrum, Aashray Millindar, an online student of the Global Freshman Academy of Arizona State University, wrote the following message on it. “We are a part of the wide human spectrum. The day we unite to make the world one family, the world will be full of LIGHT.”
Mrs. Alakananda and Mrs. Vandana wonderfully summarized the entire campaign by depicting the whole world in a palm symbolizing “Vasudeiva Kutumbakam.”
The entire experience was an overwhelming and humbling one to realize the depth with which the young and tender minds think and feel. Many children were very shy initially, but when they saw their friends joining the campaign they gladly became a part of it. There is no doubt that the world will be safe in the hands of these young people. It is up to us, adults, to ensure that they inherit a safe and peaceful world.

And we are obliged to URI and UN for creating and facilitating such a wonderful opportunity to unite humanity through simple and profound activity. We are indeed looking forward for more such opportunities through which we can become small insignificant instruments to bring mankind together.
