On the 29th of August, we the members of Palki Peace CC observed the significant festival of Rakhsa (Rakhi) Bandhan which means "the tie or knot of protection" at a very important place here in Kolkata near Park Street crossing. We tied nearly 500 rakhis to each and every one that passed by, including many street children. We also distributed chocolate to everyone. We were inspired by the presence of our Regional Coordinator Mr. Biswadeb Chakraborty.
Rakha Bandhan is an ancient festival that celebrates the love and duty between brothers and sisters, the festival is also popularly used to celebrate any brother-sister relationship between men and women who are relatives or biologically unrelated, taking it further this festival now became a festival of humanity "the tie or knot of protection" the festival transcends biological family, brings together men and women across religions, diverse ethnic groups and ritually emphasizes harmony and love. Rabindranath Tagore, the Indian Nobel Laureate for literature, invoked Raksha Bandhan and Rakhi, as concepts to inspire love, respect and a vow of mutual protection between Hindus and Muslims during India's colonial era. So as inspired by the purpose of URI, Palki Peace Circle celebrate Raksha Bandhan to strengthen the bond of love and togetherness between the people of different religon/ traditions.
One of Tagore's poems invoking Rakhi is:
The love in my body and heart
For the earth's shadow and light
Has stayed over years.
With its cares and its hope it has thrown
A language of its own
Into blue skies.
It lives in my joys and glooms
In the spring night's buds and blooms
Like a Rakhi-band
On the Future's hand.

We are really honoured to have Mr. Biswadeb Chakraborty, National Co-ordinator-URI-India, in our programme. We are highly obliged that URI has provided us a great platform and we hope for the same support in the future so that we can establish love and peace by our similar kinds of small attempts.
PALKI PEACE CO-OPERATION CIRCLE has organized its "RAKSHABANDHAN" programme on the 29th of August at Park Street X-ing, one of the iconic places in Kolkata. In Indian tradition, the frangible thread of Rakhi is considered even stronger than an iron chain, as it strongly binds people in the circumference of mutual love, trust and brotherhood.
To bring smiles to their faces, we have celebrated the day by tying almost five hundred Rakhis to the street children who are totally deprived and neglected from the joys and happiness of our artificial society and also to the people from various religions for establishing ‘Interfaith Religion’. We also distributed chocolates among them.

Palki Peace Cooperation Circle will celebrate RAKHI at Park Street, Kolkata on 29th August.
Rakshabandhan, commonly known as “RAKHI”, is a festival celebrated throughout the globe between the brothers and sisters of different religions as a sign of love and duty. On this holy occasion, every sister ties rakhi on the wrist of every brother.
Rakhi is used as a sign that a brother will protect his sister from any kind of harm, as well as the sister also praying for the success of her brother. This holy festival is also observed by the religions of Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, and others. It is one of the ancient festivals which have been observed since the time of Raja’s and Maharaja’s in historic India.
But now-a-days, this festival is also celebrated between any kind of brother and sister relationship, men and women.
On this holy day, we, the members of the Palki Peace Cooperation Circle, will celebrate it in the same tune of Raksha Bandhan. We have selected the place: Park Street, Kolkata. In the evening, we will start the programme of tying RAKHI with the street children and the other people of different religions at Park Street, Kolkata.
Since, our main objective is to build up peace among different religions, we will be tying Rakhi to different religious people. In this way, we believe that we can establish P for Preamble, P for Purpose and P for Principles of URI.
