During our last URI National Assembly at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, we had a session on the environment. After class, we asked the participants to assemble in groups and design projects to save our Earth—projects that URI India can undertake. After listening to all the groups, the whole Assembly voted for two best projects. We announced cash awards for these two—600 and 400 U.S. dollars.
Dr. Maharul Hassan’s group (Bhopal) won the first prize for a project related to water and sanitation. Mariamma Mathew’s group from Kerala won the second prize for a “Save the Rivers” campaign. These two naturally became URI National projects.
The Kerala group has identified several rivers and rivulets where they are planting bamboo trees on the shores. It is an amazing program that has attracted the attention of all, and several of our Cooperation Circles are participating in this. It is an ongoing project in which three Cooperation Circles are taking leading roles, viz. Vettikkavala Nature CC, International Centre for Study and Development CC Valakom, and Karickam International School CC. We can do wonders with the help of our youngsters.
I take this opportunity to congratulate all those who made it possible.
Warm regards,
Abraham
