The handover of the Climate Change Statement to the Ambassador

New York, 18 April. At a colourful multi-faith ceremony, Ambassador Mogens Lykketoft, President of the UN General Assembly, took delivery this morning of the Interfaith Climate Change Statement to World Leaders. The statement was signed by 270 high-level religious leaders, 4970 individuals and 176 religious groups from around the world. The event was opened by United Religions Initiative Global Chair - Kiran Bali MBE JP, as the interfaith representative, who said:
“Each of the world’s faiths and traditions underscores our moral and spiritual responsibility of environmental stewardship.
The interfaith Statement will only come alive when faith leaders ensure that millions of people are mobilised to action.
If Earth, our home is destroyed, we will have no other. No insurance policy will provide us cover from this risk.
Climate action is indeed the defining opportunity for our present time. If change doesn't start today, many of us will simply not have a tomorrow.”
