Greetings of peace and blessing from URI-Africa.
This is to inform you that URI-Africa participated in the “Mapping and Strategy for Sustainable Peace and Security in Africa” meeting held at the Desmond Tutu Conference Centre in Nairobi, Kenya on 7 and 8 April 2016, which gathered 72 participants from across the continent.
The meeting, organized by All African Conference of Churches, was a strategic one to reflect on the burning situations in the continent and the threats to peace and security in the sub-regions, and also to strategize together on how to effectively make the African Union Agenda 2063 known to the general public. The vision contained in Agenda 2063 document is a United, Peaceful and Prosperous Africa.
The participants also followed presentations on the issue of gender-based violence, the importance of families in issues of peace and security, engaging the African Union and the United Nations organizations on the issues, and the inclusion of people with disabilities in all spheres of life and the situation in Western Sahara.
I did a presentation on the need of working in partnership among faith-based organizations, religious leaders, United Nations and the African Union Commission to address the issue of peace and security collectively as a common issue.
May peace and security prevail on Earth.
In peace and gratitude,
Amb. Mussie Hailu, URI African Continental Coordinator
