Greetings of peace from URI-Africa.
URI-Africa welcomed the visit of H.E. Mrs. Park Geun-hye, President of South Korea, to Africa. President Park Geun-hye arrived in Ethiopia on May 25th for a 12-day, three-nation tour to Africa that is expected to boost bilateral ties.
I am happy to inform you that I shared with the delegates from South Korea who came with the President some of the great work of URI CCs in South Korea under the outstanding leadership of Dr. Jinwol Lee. I shared with them about the effort of URI Korea organizing an annual international, interfaith, and intercultural youth camps in Seoul, Chungnam, and Gyeonggi Provinces which enhance understanding, partnership, and cooperation among youth from different part of the world including Africa.
President Park Geun-hye was greeted by Ethiopia's Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport as she arrived in Ethiopia on the first leg of the three-nation tour.
The trip, which will also take President Park to Uganda and Kenya, comes as Africa has emerged as a continent of opportunity in recent years. President Park also plans to attend ceremonies for South Korea's official development assistance (ODA) programs in the three African countries.
In Ethiopia, President Park is also scheduled to deliver a speech at the headquarters of the African Union and meet with African Union Commission chairperson H.E. Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma to discuss ways to strengthen cooperation between South Korea and the African Union. The trip is then set to take the president of South Korea to Kampala for talks with Uganda's president, Yoweri Museveni, on Sunday. This meeting will mark the first time that a South Korean president has visited Uganda since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1963. South Korea's leader is then set to fly to Nairobi, the third stop on her swing through Africa for talks with Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The President's visit is expected to strengthen development cooperation with the African countries to assist the economic and social development of the three African countries and share South Korea's economic development with the countries, a move that could deepen ties with the African countries.
May Peace Prevail between North and South Korea
May Peace Prevail on Earth
In peace and gratitude,
Mussie Hailu
