I wish very happy Happy Eidul- Fitr to the Muslim community and especially members of the URI.
May this feast bring you many blessing from God Almighty and may there be peace all around the world.
I am sharing an official message in Arabic and English from the Vatican to the Muslim community around the globe at this great feast of Eidul Fitr. This message is written and sent by Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran, President of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue, Vatican. This message puts a lot of emphasis on mercy, forgiveness and mutual respect among Christians and Muslims.
I express my deep condolences at the terrible attacks in Saudi Arabia. It is really very painful to read about this horrific attacks on innocent people. I am also very saddened at several other suicide attacks and bombings that took place in Orlando, Istanbul, Baghdad, and Dhaka.
Such attacks make us realize that we need to further enhance our URI work to promoting culture of peace, reconciliation, respect and healing.
May Peace Prevail on Earth!
Father James Channa, URI Pakistan
After 29 days of the month of Ramadan comes Eid al-Fitr.
History: Before the advent of Islam in Arabia, there is mention of festivals as well as some others among the Arabs. The Israelites had festivals as well, some directly prescribed in the Old Testament and others commemorating important days of their history.
Eid al-Fitr was originated by the Islamic prophet Muhammad. It is observed on the first of the month of Shawwal at the end of the month of Ramadan, during which Muslims undergo a period of fasting.
According to certain traditions, these festivals were initiated in Medina after the migration of Muhammad from Mecca.
When the Prophet arrived in Medina, he found people celebrating two specific days in which they used to entertain themselves with recreation and merriment. He asked them about the nature of these festivities at which they replied that these days were occasions of fun and recreation. At this, the Prophet remarked that the Almighty has fixed two days [of festivity] instead of these for you which are better than these: Eid al-Fitr & Eid al-Adha
For Muslims, both the festivals of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha are occasions for showing gratitude to Allah and remembering Him, as well as giving alms to the poor.”
In recent past some hateful incidents took place in this world. Let us forget them all & hope the future will bring us peace & love in this God gifted earth. So, friends come & celebrate this ‘Beautiful Festival of Peace’ & pray to almighty Allah to give peace those who were victimized in terrorist attacks.
Namaskar & Adab

I share your feeling of pain in face of the ongoing murder and violence against innocent people. May we stand together and feel spiritual resilience to combat such ignorance and hatred with our friendships, shared values and solidarity.

Eid al-Fitr Mubarak to the whole URI family. The light of this Holy occasion shines brightly through the fog of war and violence lighting a path to peace for all. Such a deep peace that emerges from a time of fasting and prayer heals our hearts even as they feel broken and dispels our fears even when they seem to overwhelm us. When I heard the news of bombings in Baghdad and Medina and the massacre in Dhaka, I immediately thought of the faces of friends, members of the URI community and former students, from those cities and the pain that they feel at seeing their communities shattered by violence. But I also see in their faces great strength and courage to not let their lives be defined by these cowardly acts of atrocity.
Blessings to all Muslim sisters and brothers on this Holy day. And may we continue to find the strength and courage to live our lives committed to peace. Peace will prevail on Earth. Let us live that belief each and every day.
Peace,
Victor Kazanjian, Executive Director
