This Wednesday, September 21, is the 2016 International Day of Peace (IDP)! Join fellow peacebuilders around the world this Wednesday by planning a celebratory IDP event, and add it to our interactive map by filling out this quick form.
Want some inspiration? Some of the events already submitted for 2016 include COPE Pakistan hosting peace talks by diverse religious and political leaders, Interfaith Council of Contra Costa County sharing peace songs, hymns and readings from various traditions, Hope in Life Foundation feeding the homeless, and The Quiet Voice sponsoring a children's trip to South Africa to learn about ecology and conservation.
This year's IDP theme is “The Sustainable Development Goals: Building Blocks for Peace.” The 17 Sustainable Development Goals, which aim to end extreme poverty, inequality, and climate change by 2030, are a "to-do list for people and planet, and a blueprint for success,” according to UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
URI is celebrating this year by partnering with UNIFY (a URI Multiregion Cooperation Circle), Compassion Games International, and One Billion Acts of Peace. This is especially exciting because, when your Cooperation Circle fills out the International Day of Peace form, your activities, fliers, and photos will be shared with a much larger community. By filling out the form, you'll also be added instantly to our interactive map showing acts of peace around the world!
To highlight your peacebuilding work to a further extent, we will also be compiling all URI Cooperation Circle's celebratory events and publishing them in a "URI-United Nations Yearbook" in addition to publishing them online on URI.org.
