Women’s Interfaith Network of the URI encourages action on March 8: International Women’s Day

23 February 2017

Feb 23, 2017. March 8 is International Women's Day  when we celebrate the gallant women of the world both at the grassroots and the different leadership levels.

An invitation from the WIN-URI Cooperation Circle

March 8 is International Women's Day when we celebrate the gallant women of the world both at the grassroots and the different leadership levels.  We also celebrate great men who are supportive of women’s efforts.  In URI we have many such men honoring our URI Principle 8 that says that we practice equitable participation of men and women in all aspects of the URI.  In that spirit, please join the WIN URI CC (Women's Interfaith Network of the URI) in congratulating URI's ED Victor Kazanjian for recently receiving an "Honorable Guy Award" from the Institute for Women's Leadership.  The honorees of "Guys Who Get It Awards" were selected based on the impact of their leadership on gender equality, and their track record working to advance women's leadership and women's issues.

Victor therefore joins the other past and present men in URI who have been very supportive of our work as women at both the grassroots CC level and at all levels of women’s leadership. We acknowledge his steadfast support to women within URI and are fortunate to have an Honorable Guy as our Director!  We appreciate men to be partners in women's empowerment programs, and we acknowledge how they can be strong instruments for attitude change in our society.

As we approach International Women's Day, March 8, WIN URI CC therefore, encourages all CC's to do something to honor women in their area.   You can hold a large community meeting honoring women, or a small gathering of women to pray together, to share a meal, to speak about the situation of women in your area, to plant a tree honoring our connection to Mother Earth, to study religious texts related to women, or anything that is relevant to your CC. Involving young girls, or boys and men in your events is very important to encourage changes in attitude towards women.

Please share with us and/or the communications desk at the GSO your plans and reports for International Women's Day.  We look forward to hearing a powerful women's voice in URI that day!

Love,

Elana and Despina
