Global Interfaith Network for the Golden Rule on Golden Rule Day
Dear Colleagues,
Greetings of peace and blessing.
On the occasion of the celebration of Golden Rule Day which was started in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in 2007, I present you greetings of peace and best wishes.
As people of diverse religions, spiritual expressions and indigenous traditions who are working together to promote enduring, daily interfaith cooperation, to end religiously motivated violence and to create cultures of peace, justice and healing for the Earth and all living beings- the teaching of the Golden Rule which says “Treat others the way you want to be treated” will help us as our common share value and a guiding principle for interfaith harmony.
The Golden Rule is the pathway to over come hate speech and promote respect the uniqueness of each religions, cultures and faith tradition and differences of practice or belief and respect for one another.
As we are commemorating the Golden Rule Day, I pray for the creator of the universe to open our hearts and minds to understand that in this interrelated world we need the Golden Rule more than ever as it is a fundamental human value needed today as the basis for peaceful co-existence, justice and human dignity.
The Golden Rule is one practical action that leads us from war to peace, from killing each other to co-existence, from disrespect to honoring each other, from hate to love, from despair to hope, from darkness to light, from being selfish to living for the sake of others and from holding revenge to forgiveness.
As it has been stated many times living by the Golden Rule isn’t always easy. To treat others like we want to be treated requires a constant, active consideration of how our words and actions affect others. By putting this time-honored principle into daily practice, and asking our friends, families and leaders to do the same, we can work toward creating a greater understanding and respect for one another.
By promoting the teaching of the Golden Rule we learn to respect one another. We learn to appreciate both our differences and the common values that bind us to one another. We need to recognize pluralism and respect diversity.
Our world needs the teaching of the Golden Rule more than ever.
Let us be instruments of peace and a living example of the teaching of the Golden Rule.
May Peace, Golden Rule and Compassion Prevail in our Heart, Mind, Family, Community, Country and the World.
May Peace Prevail on Earth
In peace and gratitude
