NOTE FROM ASSOCIACIÓ UNESCO PER AL DIÀLEG INTERRELIGIÓS (AUDIR) COOPERATION CIRCLE IN RESPONSE TO THE TERRORIST ACT PERPETRATED IN BARCELONA ON AUGUST 17 OF 2017
In the face of the tragic events that took place in Barcelona yesterday, on Las Ramblas Avenue, we want to express our solidarity with the victims and their families. We express that, despite the fact that a growing dynamic of conflict, hatred and fear is being installed around the world. We believe that the best way to prevent it and to overcome it is the constant, daily construction of a culture of dialogue, love and hope. All religions unfortunately suffer from pathological derivatives, but that cannot prevent us from recognizing that the fundamental intuitions of the vast majority of the great religious, spiritual traditions and non-religious philosophical followers venerate and defend with determination the absolutes of life and love that are unconditional allies of coexistence, social cohesion and peace. These traditions are a diverse and common heritage of humanity that is essential to achieving our survival, not only as a democratic society, but also as a species. We cannot afford to go without their humanizing contributions.
That is why our Association, inspired by the culture of dialogue and peace which UNESCO promotes, believes it is essential, now more than ever, that our societies promote synergistic education in dialogue, tolerance and mutual knowledge and respect. It is essential that we prevent prejudices and stereotypes that fuel hatred to difference.
In this sense, we regret the voices that, faced with such ill-fated events, in networks and in some media, tend to identify terrorists with a tradition or a religious community. We are confident that the clear, consistent and needed statements that the different Muslim organizations have already published serve to undo the voices that take advantage of the misfortune and pain of the victims to try to achieve social and political goals that have nothing to do with the Humanist spirit, and the inclusion of the great religious, spiritual and convictional traditions.
We also believe that these unfortunate situations are an opportunity for all the authorities, religious and spiritual personalities of the various communities to show their rejection of violence, self-criticism and public recognition and repentance for the mistakes and complicities that have made possible a certain ambiguity or, even, a certain connivance with situations of injustice, exploitation, oppression or violence. We are convinced that the firm and determined commitment to the culture of dialogue and peace that is expressed in the different platforms of interreligious dialogue around the world is built on the fraternal correction and common healing of the wounds of the past.
Together, we can build a new and different world. We must do it day-by-day with creativity and social innovation in the recognition of the values of diversity, and respect and esteem of human rights. We cannot exclude or go without anyone.

NOTA DE L’ASSOCIACIÓ UNESCO PER AL DIÀLEG INTERRELIGIÓS A PROPÒSIT DE L’ACTE TERRORISTA PERPETRAT A BARCELONA EL 17 D’AGOST DEL 2017
Davant dels tràgics fets esdevinguts a Barcelona ahir a les Rambles de Barcelona, volem manifestar la nostra solidaritat amb les víctimes i els seus familiars i expressar que,malgrat que arreu del món s’està instal·lant una dinàmica creixent de conflicte, odi i por, creiem que la millor manera de prevenir-la i de superar-la és la construcció constant, quotidiana i des de tots es àmbits d’una cultura del diàleg, de l’amor i de l’esperança. Totes les religions pateixen malauradament derives patològiques que no poden impedir que es reconegui que les intuïcions fonamentals de la immensa majoria de les grans tradicions religioses i espirituals i de les conviccions filosòfiques no religioses veneren i defensen amb determinació l’absolut de la vida i de l’amor i que, per això, són aliades incondicionals de la convivència, la cohesió social i la pau. Aquestes tradicions són un patrimoni divers i comú de la humanitat que és imprescindible per aconseguir la nostra supervivència no només com a societat democràtica sinó també com a espècie. No ens podem permetre el luxe de prescindir de les seves aportacions humanitzadores.
Per això des de l’Associació, inspirats en la cultura del diàleg i de la pau, que promou la UNESCO, creiem que és essencial, ara més que mai, que les nostres societats afavoreixin sinèrgicament l’educació en el diàleg, la tolerància i el coneixement i el respecte mutus i previnguin els prejudicis i els estereotips que alimenten l’odi a la diferència.
En aquest sentit lamentem les veus que, davant de fets tan malaurats, a les xarxes i en alguns mitjans de comunicació, tendeixen a identificar a uns terroristes amb una tradició o amb una comunitat religiosa. Confiem que les clares, contundents i necessàries declaracions que les diferents organitzacions musulmanes ja han anat publicant serveixin per desfer aquestes veus que aprofiten la desgràcia i el dolor de les víctimes per intentar aconseguir objectius socials i polítics que no tenen res a veure amb l’esperit humanista i inclusiu de les grans tradicions religioses, espirituals i conviccionals.
Creiem també que aquestes malaurades situacions són una oportunitat per a que totes les autoritats i personalitats religioses i espirituals de les diverses comunitats facin palès el seu rebuig a la violència, la seva autocrítica i el reconeixement i penediment públic pels errors i complicitats que hagin fet possible una certa ambigüitat o, fins i tot, una certa connivència amb situacions d’injustícia, explotació , opressió o violència. estem convençuts que el compromís ferm i decidit en la cultura del diàleg i de la pau que s’expressa en les diferents plataformes de diàleg interreligiós d’arreu del planeta es construeix sobre la correcció fraterna i la sanació comuna de les ferides del passat.
Tots junts podem edificar un món nou i diferent i ho hem de fer dia a dia des de la creativitat, la innovació social i el reconeixement dels valors de la diversitat i dels respecte i l’estima dels drets humans. No podem excloure ni prescindir de ningú.
