Ektaan, meaning "one tone," is a performance group that writes and performs theatre that is focused on addressing contemporary issues like interfaith relations. The group rehearses for three hours a day in a community space built with the help of URI East Zone fundraising efforts.
During our visit the group performed a scene from a play that debuts in January about Hindu-Muslim relations. In the scene, a guru tells a prophecy that their community will receive a boy, but not by birth; it turns out that a Muslim man in their community adopts a young Hindu child. In the end (shown above), they all rejoice, recognizing that the miracle of the child is beyond name or identity.
