Mary Lou Anderson, a member of the URI Multiregion group Voices for a World Free of Nuclear Weapons, shares her experience walking in a peace procession for six days in the Nevada desert. The location is heavy with significance. In addition to holding sacred Indigenous burial grounds, it is also the site where the United States government tested nuclear weapons designed to kill and destroy. The peace walk is a “collective effort to spread love and nonviolence across the desert and the world…spreading public awareness of the reality of the magnitude of the state of the nuclear weapons complex.”
