The Indigenous North American Lakota community responded to the global threat of COVID-19 with four days of prayer and ceremony. On Saturday, March 21, a sacred fire was built at the powwow grounds in Eagle Butte. Chief Arvol Looking Horse, Keeper of the Sacred Pipe and a longtime URI member and friend, performed the opening prayer while the sacred fire was lit.
