Global Compassion, a URI member group in Santchou, Cameroon, prepared an activity to understand social distancing and washing hands before handling sanitary kits and food.
"An emergency situation doesn’t know weekend or Sunday; Our challenge of today was so appreciated by the people in Santchou’s community."
The beneficiaries were internally displaced persons (IDPs) from the ongoing crisis in Cameroon, as well as widows living in Santchou. The Global Compassion team set up a respectful practice of social distancing, including their hand-washing kits, so people were able to wash their hands before taking their distributed packages of raw foods and soaps. This enabled the community to respect the quarantine and to stay home during this challenging time of the COVID-19 pandemic.
"We distributed foods and soaps to help them stay healthy at home with their families: more than 40 families were represented and we kept them in a circle and lines of 1.5 meters distance each and required them to wash their hands before taking their packages for feedings home."
