Swamy Vivekananda Rural Development Society, a URI member group in Telangana, India, is distributing fresh vegetables and face masks to vulnerable populations during the COVID-19 pandemic. Because many families in the local villages live solely on the basis of their current day's wages, they are at a considerably higher risk and face more problems than families who are able to depend on savings during the crisis. The vegetables help people sustain a healthy diet while the masks help reduce virus transmission.
Md. Gouse Miya, a member of the group, reports, "The vegetables and masks were distributed by the hands of M.R.O, district co-option member, Village Sarpanch, Farmer Coordination Committee and local S.I. Sir."
