The long awaited Caravan of Unity Across America is launching this Friday August 28th at the historic Grace Cathedral. Featuring a powerful lineup of indigenous elders, world-class musicians, faith leaders, poets and peace-makers the event begins a month-long journey across the United States that leads up to Peace Weekend on September 19-21 and ends on the National Mall on the 28th September.
Seven-time Emmy Award winner Gary Malkin has brought together a stunning lineup of virtuoso musicians and artists including Melanie Demore (Vocals & co-host), Tammi Brown, Dror Sinai, Shannon Hayden, Kim Rosen, Lior Tsafarty and Bouchaib Abdelhadi.
The program inside the Cathedral is from 1pm - 4pm PDT, and features a special message from The Rt. Rev. Dr. Marc Handley Andrus, Bishop of California and a welcome from The Rev. Canon Dr. Ellen Clark-King. Rev Victor Kazanjian, Executive Director of the UR is another guest speaker. The date August 28th is significant for being the anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King’s history-making “I Have a Dream” speech.
This unique broadcast includes a Sufi ceremony coming from Konya, Turkey at the place of the Mausoleum of Rumi as well as the world premier of a new music video from legendary John Lennon tribute act Jimmy Coburn - “Together as 1”.
UNITY EARTH in partnership with URI (United Religions Initiative), Grace Cathedral, SINE Network, TUFF, and Hubcast Media are producing the event, which begins with a special Flag Ceremony outside the Cathedral at Huntington Park. Beginning at 12:00 noon the blessing to open the ceremony will be given by indigenous Grandmother Jyoto Ma, before the visually impressive Flag Ceremony held by May Peace Prevail on Earth International.
