URI is participating at the virtual Global Observance of World Habitat Day 2020, co-hosted by UN-Habitat and the Government of the Republic of Indonesia from the City of Surabaya.
The United Nations designated the first Monday of October every year as World Habitat Day, to reflect on the state of our towns and cities and on the basic right to adequate shelter for all.
The theme of World Habitat Day 2020 is "Housing For All: A Better Urban Future." The event presents an opportunity to engage in a global discussion on the impact of COVID-19 on the housing sector and how we can build back better by leveraging the role of housing as a catalyst for delivering human rights and as a foundation of people’s well-being.
The two-day programme will open with the official ceremony on World Habitat Day on Monday, 5 October 2020, and conclude with high-level roundtables on Tuesday, 6 October.
