In support of the United Nations General Assembly resolution 68/239 to celebrate World Cities Day, URI is going to join hands with UN-Habitat on October 30.
The 2020 theme of World Cities Day is “Valuing Our Communities and Cities”. The theme of this year resonates very well with the core values of URI.
The event will help to promote the international community’s interest in global urbanization, enhance cooperation among countries in meeting opportunities, and addressing challenges of urbanization, and contributing to sustainable urban development around the world.
On the occasion of the celebration of the 2020 Word Cities Day, URI wants to emphasize that community activities can no longer be taken for granted. URI also wants to call upon policymakers and urban managers to engage communities systematically and strategically in urban planning, implementation and monitoring to co-create the cities of the future.
As you know, the community value encompasses local volunteering and people organizing in their own neighbourhoods, as well as social movements that challenge poverty, systemic discrimination and racism.
In welcoming the Sustainable Development Goal 11, which formulates the ambition to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable, URI is going to enhance more its partnership with UN-Habitat to foster sustainable cities for all.
UN-Habitat works in over 90 countries to promote transformative change in cities and human settlements through knowledge, policy advice, technical assistance and collaborative action.
UN-Habitat works with partners to build inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable cities and communities. UN-Habitat promotes urbanization as a positive transformative force for people and communities, reducing inequality, discrimination and poverty.
May Peace Prevail on Earth!
