On 21 December 2020, in response to growing religious hatred, discrimination and stigma, the United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution A/75/200 proclaiming 4 February as the International Day of Human Fraternity to foster interfaith harmony, dialogue, and mutual respect worldwide.
Welcoming this resolution of the General Assembly of the United Nations, URI established a working partnership with the International Human Fraternity Summit (IHFS) to advance a culture of peace, intercultural and interreligious dialogue, to promote humanitarian action to prevent and defuse identity-based tensions, and to rediscover and recommit to living out values that support a more peaceful future and a better world for all.
We are living in a world of changes so profound and rapid that no country can stand globally alone, like the pandemic we are forced to encounter at present. This is what initiated the launch of The International Human Fraternity Summit, which aims to safe-keep the prosperity and welfare of all mankind. Humanitarian values and principles are vital components for mankind to prevail in this world. As a global community, we face an array of global tests. These tests boil down to the fundamental challenge of making enlightened decisions today and tomorrow, that will place people and the planet on course for a better future.
As the celebration of the first International Day of Human Fraternity in the context of World Interfaith Harmony Week will provide an opportunity to highlight and explore good practices towards creating a pathway for a better world, URI is participating at the IHFS to be held on February 4, 2021 under the theme “Human Fraternity for Working Together to Achieve a Better Future.”
The Summit marks an important milestone towards establishing global cooperation and unity. This International Platform will provide highly interactive features which advocate and stand for humanitarian values like neutrality, impartiality, and independence, which we can see that we lack nowadays in many places around the world. The International Human Fraternity Summit set of features and activities will include thought leadership sessions, Interactive exhibition for Humanitarian organizations, Humanitarian, Digital Library, Art and Photography Gallery, and Humanitarian Stories.
