"Be the Change you wish to see" – Mahatma Gandhi
Let me begin by saying how privileged I feel to have had the opportunity to serve URI. The honor of representing URI in so many ways has been so humbling and a real opportunity to make a difference internally and in the global interfaith world.
An illuminating journey of service which began through youth leadership, helped me grow as an individual, and taught me such valuable lessons in life.
Transformational organizational change is necessary for growth and challenging the status quo brings new opportunities.
As expected, change often comes with resistance, mistrust, and criticism, which requires courage and tenacity.
Through a multi-tiered approach, a structure of strengthened governance, coherence, and accountability has been adopted which will carry the organization into the future with a clear vision of delivering tangible outcomes.
I am proud of the determination and persistence of the outgoing Global Council to ensure that URI is now firmly poised in renewed vigor and service to support our exceptional Cooperation Circles.
I would like to express my gratitude to URI’s Founding Executive Director Charles Gibbs, for his faith in my abilities. With no desire for a title or larger role, I took on the extra responsibility, primarily for the privilege of working alongside Charles.
I would like to acknowledge Mary Cranston, who as a high achiever herself, showed trust in my leadership during the most challenging of times. Thank you, Mary, for your courageous support.
To URI's Founder, Trustees, Staff members, donors, and partners whom I have worked with over the years, I extend my appreciation for your sincere, unwavering confidence in my leadership and your commitment to URI.
Finally, I would like to pay tribute to all people around the world who selflessly dedicate themselves towards interfaith cooperation and action, day in, and day out.
Our collective service is all the more important today, as we continue in many diverse capacities to build a safer, equitable, and inclusive tomorrow.
Peace and blessings,
Kiran Bali MBE JP
