Ryan Tanauan, who many know as Rem, passed away peacefully in his sleep on October 22, 2022, at their home in Batangas City. The official cause of death is pancreatitis.
He served as the Research and Information Communication Officer of URI-SEAPac from 2012-2014 and was active in organizing interfaith events and was also a writer and teacher of love. He wrote interfaith-inspired prayer poetry and moved with words through intuitive dancing. With this he also founded Pathfinders Commune, a CC in the URI Network.
URI-Philippines Country Coordinator, Musa Sanguila shared that:
He was one of the pioneering CC of URI here in the Philippines. He was an asset of our CC especially on relationship building. We used to call him the ‘Funky Man’ who lead us to laugh loudly especially during ‘Ice breakers’. His name will be remembered to most of us. May he rest in peace.
Former URI Global Council Trustee for Southeast Asia and the Pacific (2014-2022), Peter Mosauferiadis also echoed his sentiments and said:
I’ll never forget being inspired by your intellect and deep philosophical understanding of how love can be cultivated as a seed in every one of us. May you forever be imbued and bask in the light of the divine.
To honor Rem's memory was honored at celebration of his life and legacy on October 26, 2022, giving all who knew him a moment to reflect on how he lived his life fully, meaningfully, and beautifully.
Borrowing the words of one of his mentors,
"Let us honor the Great Mystery in his life and in his life in the next."
