Praying for a World Free of Nuclear Weapons

August 6 might seem like any other day when we wake up and go about our day’s routine and tasks. But 78 years ago, this day was like no other; it was filled with doom, pain, death, and suffering for the people of Hiroshima, Nagasaki, and the whole world.

On August 6, 1945, two atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, killing over 180,000 people and injuring dozens until this day.

Every year, we are reminded that preventing what happened 78 years ago from reoccurring is vital.

Voices for a World Free of Nuclear Weapons Cooperation Circle is committed to eliminating nuclear weapons through education, reflection, and action.

Nuclear prayer day is one of the initiatives by Voices for a world free of Nuclear Weapons CC organizes to unite people from around the world in prayer for a world free from nuclear weapons.

Voices for a World Free of Nuclear Weapons shares reasons why pray. 

When people all over the world join together on one day to raise their deepest concerns to the Highest Power, then hope and solidarity replaces the feeling of nuclear helplessness; 

It stops us from thinking that nine nuclear-powered presidents are the final authorities of life on this planet;

It sets us in search of leaders who will deliver us from nuclear self-destruction.

This year, URI is partnering with Voices for a World Free of Nuclear Weapons CC for the nuclear prayer day on 6 August 2023.
