URI-Africa and Peace League Africa sign partnership agreement to work together in Africa
Recognizing the need to work in close collaboration to advance a common share objective, United Religions Initiative - Africa and Peace League Africa signed a partnership agreement to work together to foster a culture of peace, human dignity, interfaith & inter cultural harmony, and to counter hate speech, violence, and xenophobia in Africa.
The objective of the agreement is also to advance the working partnership between the two organizations in the following areas:
- To promote a culture of Peace in Africa through information sharing, training, research, education, and innovative early interventions and bridging the gap between theory, policy and practice
- To promote the effort of non-violence, interfaith harmony, constructive dialogue, healing, forgiveness, reconciliation, compassion and mutual respect
- To advance sharing the information and creating awerence on the good work of religious leaders, faith based, interfaith organizations and the work of URI CCs in Africa and the rest of the world through the Interfaith Newspaper published by Peace League Africa
- To be stewardship of the environment and to curve the problem of climate change
- To popularize and implement the Plan of Action for Religious Leaders and Actors to Prevent Incitement to Violence
- To counter hate speech, radicalization and violent extremism
- To work together in the implementation of Agenda 2063 and SDGs
- To promote the purpose of the Faith for Earth Initiative of UNEP
- To support the effort of overcoming prejudice, intolerance and stereotyping on the basis of religion, ethnicity and culture
- To organize in partnership events like the celebration of the International Day of Peace, World Environment Day, World Interfaith harmony Week, Golden Rue Day etc
- To strengthen partnership among faith communities in Africa in the spirit of Ubuntu to promote interfaith cooperation for peaceful coexistence and to prevent violence and crime against humanity
- To promote as preventing mechanism the common shared values and ethical principle accepted across all religions and faith tradition holy books - the Golden Rule which says “Treat others the way you want to be treated” as the teaching of the Golden Rule help to foster inter-religious and intercultural harmony, mutual respect, and build trust and understanding and to overcome hate speech and violence
- To organize workshops, meetings, seminars, and to develop and implement relevant common projects in partnership
