Dishari is a social organization founded by social workers for the people of remote areas. It was established in Khulna in 2010. Dishari is a Bengali word: it means “those who are the guides to disadvantaged people for enlightened life.” The purpose of Dishari is to promote enduring social work and culture, secular unity and daily interfaith cooperation, to end religiously motivated violence and to create cultures of peace in remote areas and among rural society. This group was formed by 35 members of Hinduism, Islam, Buddhism and Christianity. They strive to empower inhabitants of remote areas who will be initiators of positive changes, which will create a better future through building a society of equal opportunities without prejudices. They address challenges such as child marriage, children’s education, and health conditions in their area. Religious conflicts are also big issues, but it is hard to discuss religion to promote interfaith because people are afraid to talk about religion. There is much isolation in Bangladesh, except for areas where members are doing some work on interfaith issues. Members believe that addressing common challenges in society will give them the platform of bringing people from different faiths together.
