Members of this Cooperation Circle (CC): conduct sensitization meetings; form and train Disaster Committees; register beneficiaries and conduct impact assessments; and distribute relief items and provision of spiritual and psychosocial support to affected people. They provide humanitarian assistance to families and groups of people affected by natural disasters—like floods, disease outbreaks, and droughts—in evacuation camps and other places in the Chikwawa and Nsanje districts. Their focus is also to reduce gender-based violence in the Lower Shire given its prevalence in the area. Through these activities they expect to restore hope and dignity to those displaced, relocated or injured by disasters. Through partnerships with other organizations, Lower Shire Interfaith Initiative has worked in district teams to register and distribute relief items in the evacuation camps. This work is ongoing. They are working together to make a better Malawi for everybody, so that everyone can live peacefully and in harmony together. Members are well aware of the environmental issues that have led to the current devastation to the land and the community, and they are aware that these issues will need to be addressed before true stability can be restored.
