MCWRET sponsors and co-sponsors various programs and activities that aim to create an increased interest, awareness and sensitivity among members of various faith and wisdom traditions, as well as cultures. Diversity, in all of its forms, is embraced and fostered. The Monmouth Center for World Religions and Ethical Thought (MCWRET) usually holds four annual, recurring events and several other events. The events are: 1- Shanti (Peace) Lecture: Instituted in 1996 in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Sri Ram and Shanti Chaddha. 2- United We Sing – Music of Gratitude. This event had its origins in the aftermath of September 11, 2001. In anguish and sorrow, they came together from different cultural and faith traditions to proclaim and celebrate our rich diversity. 3- Honoring the Legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Each year they look for a creative way to celebrate and honor the legacy of Dr. King. They often partner with other community organizations. 4- Annual Meeting and Lecture: To provide an overview of activities and provide information to the community about MCWRET. Their MOSAIC Project (Mobilizing Our Students for Action to build Interfaith Community) (http://www.gardenstatemosaic.org/), an interfaith youth organization started by MCWRET for young people ages 13 to 18 to share and learn about various religious traditions. Monthly visits to different houses of worship to learn about beliefs and practices from youth of that tradition, followed by sharing traditional foods, are woven with community service projects and leadership training. In 2019, for Rise vs Hunger, they raised $6000 to package 20,000 meals that went to Uganda. It has received local awards and recognition. MCWRET Board Members also join with members of Monmouth County faith communities to conduct a variety of public events within this learning community.
