Spotlight was established in 2015 by a group of women displaced by war who had the chance to meet and interact with local people from different religious backgrounds and sects. Despite their differences, they found many factors gathered them, especially their aims to provide humanitarian assistance to people in need. Therefore, they started to work together to help others and promote peaceful co-existence. They: 1) provide financial, in-kind and moral assistance to the displaced and those affected by the war, regardless of their religion, sect, or intellectual orientation. 2) Empower women economically to improve family income and reduce the problem of poverty. 3) Visit homes for the elderly, orphans, and psychiatric centers, and set up open days for cooking, playing, talking with them, and assisting them with various needs.
As a diverse group that has members from both sides of the conflict, they go against war’s political propaganda that promotes separation and hatred to others who are perceived as different. Members of Spotlight aim to restore peaceful co-existence of people who have been living side-by-side for centuries.
