Squamish Multifaith Association was created at the end of 2010 by a group of representatives of different faiths in Squamish, British Columbia, Canada. The group’s goal was to develop a network to promote understanding and cooperation, in recognition of the many blessings and gifts that they had received through the teachings of their various traditions and in the spirit of love and fellowship that is at the heart of them all. Squamish Multifaith Association was formally incorporated in August 2011 and it is open to all persons who share the association’s goals. They strive to build bridges of understanding, as they engage in community dialogue and collaboration with other groups on areas of mutual interest.
Members believe that every religion has a form of the Golden Rule that its members are taught to live by, and they seek to promote it in all that they do. They seek to educate one another about the diverse religious backgrounds that make up their membership, and find common ground between those who hold differing views. They work collaboratively with other organizations to promote the common good and wellbeing of the community. Each year, The Squamish Multifaith Association hosts a Unity in Diversity Dinner, recognizes March 21st as the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, collaborates with the local branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints to coordinate the BC Thanksgiving Food Drive in Squamish District, and supports the Annual July 01 Multicultural Day at Totem Hall.
