Women Development Society (WDS) is a voluntary organization engaged in the sustainable development of the area of Gurramkonda Block of Chitoor District, where there are three main religious groups living together. The area is comprised of 55% Hindus, 30% Muslims and 15% Christians. The literacy ratio is 65%, in which the female literacy rate is 25%. In the area, 40% of the people are living below the poverty line. Members serve the community without discrimination against caste, creed, religious faith, etc. and help to establish and maintain peace, build interfaith bridges and communal harmony. They are also facilitating and enabling the women’s groups as its partners. Through trainings In their Center in Gurramkonda Block, WDS has helped develop skills of more than 800 women from below the poverty line. They have promoted mangrove tree planting programs, organized environmental education programs and also conducted Functional Literacy programs under the aegis of NABARD, a government-sponsored activity.
